Meet Dr. Edward Elisha Stonestreet (1830-1903) who worked as a community and family physician for over half a century. Dr. Stonestreet established a successful practice in Rockville where his career bore witness to much advancement in the fields of science and medicine during the second half of the 19th century. Esteemed as a public servant and humanitarian, Dr. Stonestreet served two terms as Contract Surgeon for the Union Army during the Civil War, helped to found the Montgomery County Medical Society, and was the first Public Health Officer in the county. But perhaps most notable is the fact that throughout his career, Dr. Stonestreet helped anyone who needed his care – regardless of who they were or whether they could pay. Historic interpreter Clarence Hickey will portray Dr. Stonestreet, speaking about his country medical practice, and focus on his 19th century patients and friends in the Olney and Sandy Spring area. He will also share the contents of his 1885 medical bag. Salon luncheons are held the first Wednesday of each month (except for August). Bring a brown bag lunch and enjoy free coffee and tea.
