Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) are easy-to-use devices that have proven to save lives when available in the community. In the case of a cardiac event, seconds count and having an AED within running distance is critical for rapid access to defibrillation. AEDs have proven, over many years, to raise the save rate from around 5% up to as high as 78% or thereabouts. Maryland, along with all other U.S. states, has a Good Samaritan Law protecting any caregiver from liability for aiding someone.
AEDs are already in place at many of the places that you travel daily, such as gyms, healthcare centers, and schools. By installing additional AEDs in the community, ready for anyone to use, everyone will have access to these lifesaving devices.
The Olney Rotary Club is looking, specifically, at installing them in Greater Olney's six shopping centers and in five markets.
Each unit costs about $2000 and to raise funds for at least 15 AEDs for the community, the Rotary Club will be hosting a Casino Night and Silent Auction.
A large part of the fundraising effort at this event is the silent auction. The Rotary Club is asking for donations of products, certificates for services, or even gift cards that attendees can bid on. The Silent Auction helps promote your business within the Olney community and can put your products in front of the, at least, 100 people expected to attend.
Auction items received prior to April 15 will be listed on the Rotary website ahead of the event, and the due date for all auction items is May 9, 2018.
More information about the evening is available at www.olneyrotary.org. Contact Jenny.Gendel@gmail.com if you would like to assist in this lifesaving cause.
