History Happy Hour: The Misconceptions of Women in Islam

MISCONCEPTIONS OF WOMEN IN ISLAM

August 10 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Women?s roles, rights, and manner of dress in Islam are often misunderstood or stereotyped in public perception. When we see a woman wearing a headscarf or fully covered in a hijab, what preconceived ideas come to mind?  Panelists include Nadia Hassan, Executive Director of the Young Leaders Institute, media commentator and social justice advocate, Nisa Muhammed, Chaplain and Assistant Dean for Religious Life at Howard University, and Dr. Nadia Hashimi, pediatrician, novelist, and a Democratic congressional candidate for the United States House of Representatives for Maryland?s 6th congressional district.

Join the conversation as they discuss and dispel myths about women in Islam. This is a free event. co-sponsored by the American Muslim Institution.

History Happy Hours include complimentary drinks and snacks.  Out of respect for our Muslim guests, only non-alcoholic drinks will be served.  The History Happy Hour series is sponsored by Therrien Waddell Construction Group.
