Historic Sandy Spring Bus Tours

Friends House is sponsoring a series of three historic bus tours in September.  These tours will start from the Sandy Spring Friends Meetinghouse at 17715 Meeting House Rd, Sandy Spring, MD 20860 and will include stops at Woodlawn Manor Historical Park, the Sandy Spring Slave Museum and the Sandy Spring Museum.  Lorne Garrettson, who is very knowledgeable about the history of this area, will be the tour guide, with additional tour guides at each of the stops.  

People will gain an understanding of the settlement and history of the town of Sandy Spring; some of the interesting facts about the Quaker Meeting House and community, the neighboring Lyceum and the graveyard; and the history of slave-holding in the Sandy Spring area, along with some of the activities of those who were freed.  

Each of the tours will be about 3 hours in length and will start and end at the Sandy Spring Friends Meeting House.  Tickets are $40 apiece and are available online. Income from these tours will benefit Friends House. Two seats accessible for wheelchairs are available for each tour.
